Sole UX Designer · HCL Software · BigFix SaaS · 2024 · Shipped ✓

My role

I was the only designer on this project, responsible for every stage from audit to post-launch QA.

🔍 Heuristic evaluation Audited the existing prototype against WCAG 2.1 AA and HCL Design System standards
👤 User research synthesis Grounded design decisions in existing BigFix persona research and ecosystem mapping
🎨 High-fidelity design All 8 screens · all states · light and dark mode
Accessibility specification Full WCAG 2.1 AA — heading structure, tab order, alt text, labels, skip links
📐 Responsive design Mobile · Tablet · Small laptop — annotated at every breakpoint
New step design mTLS Configurations + Configure BES Explorer — designed from scratch
📋 Developer handoff 13 specification areas per screen · living iteration log
QA Reviewed implementation against design specs before ship

Design decisions approved by PM. All design thinking, accessibility specification, and handoff documentation — mine.

The product

BigFix is HCL Software's enterprise unified endpoint management platform—used by large organizations to discover, secure, and manage thousands of devices from a single console.

The Configuration Manager installation flow is the first thing a BigFix administrator runs before the product can be used. Get this wrong and nothing else works.

The problem

"BigFix operators need a consistent flow throughout BigFix to deploy content to agents — because the BigFix learning curve is high."

— HCL BigFix product team problem statement

When I joined the project, a functional prototype of this flow existed. It was not production-ready.

Three things needed to change:

❌ Did not meet HCL Design System standards ❌ Failed WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements ❌ Missing two configuration steps required by the SaaS environment
